Druid Hills High School Soccer Legacy Banquet 2019:  A Celebration of Our Legacy!

On Thursday night, November 14th, 2019, more than 200 Druid Hills High School alumni soccer players, their coaches, and their families joined current players, families and coaches at Emory University’s Miller-Ward Alumni House to celebrate the 50 year history and impact of DHHS’s winning soccer program!  Hosted by the DHHS Soccer Booster Club and an alumni planning team, this special evening of remembrance and reconnection benefited and launched the Fisseha “Sol” Samuel DHHS ’13 Scholarship Fund for DHHS players who need assistance with program dues.   Guests enjoyed an incredible meal catered by Gold Post sponsor Mediterranean Grill with wine and beer supplied by The Rathurs-Gritz Family Restaurant and Wild Heaven Brewery.

The program was kicked off by our Master of Ceremonies, John Toulme DHHS ’13, a warm Principal Joyner Welcome, and a fascinating (and funny) retrospective on life at Druid Hills in 1968 shared with us by Richard Atwood, DHHS ’68.  Other speakers included the “winningest” soccer coach in DHHS history, Mike Nance, Josh Bagriansky DHHS ‘03, Coach Trey Palmer, Rep. Becky Evans, Trainer Jen Serwitz, Author Melissa Fay-Greene, Josef Samuel, and culminated in the retirement of  Fisseha’s number 21 by Coach Thomas Bodnar.   What an evening of camradery!

Due to technical difficulties, many of us could not hear Yosef’s Samuel’s video message in the hall.   His video is located on the "Fisseha 'Sol' Samuel Scholarship" page.

Thank you to all of our fantastic speakers who shared their wonderful memories and reflections, to everyone who came out to share the evening, to our incredible sponsors who support us so well, and to so many of you who were unable to join us, but contributed so generously to our Scholarship Fund.   The alumni planning team of  John Toulme ’13, Danna Fuentes ’13, Heather Mase ’14,  and Josh Bagriansky ’03 led by Haley Landis '13 -- they created a truly magnificent night!

But there are lots more opportunities to get together and enjoy DHHS Soccer!

Come out on Friday, February 21 to hang out with other alumni including Richard Atwood ’68 and members of the first ’67 – ’68 DHHS soccer team at Manuels Tavern from 3 – 7 PM, followed by attending the Boys Varsity match against the Atlanta International School at Adams Stadium at 7:30 PM!

Check out the full calendar on the website, and come join us at any of our home or away games!

And there are lots of ways to Make a Difference to our program:  Become a season sponsor !  Buy some spiritwear!  Or help a worthy player cover their player dues by contributing to the Scholarship Fund!
